Carpet manufacturers have been using Tencel branded lyocell fibres by Lenzing for several years now. These cellulose fibres are obtained from the renewable raw material wood in an environmentally responsible process. Materials made of 100% Tencel fibres are completely biodegradable and can therefore be returned to nature – a closed loop.
Zimmer Austria's Colaris printing machines provide 100 % penetration – to the effect that the clearly defined pattern will also appear on the backside of the carpet, just as though it had been knotted or woven from yarns in different colours.
Colaris printers come with an open ink system that works with a wide range of inks from various dye manufacturers. Accordingly, almost any fibre base can be printed: polyamide, wool or polyester. Especially cationic dyeable polyester is said to have a good potential. Additionally, the excellent colour yield of up to 100 % fixation counts for a substantial ink saving and may eliminate the need of post-print washing in many cases: a substantial contribution to a clean environment.
Custom-order rugs offer personalized possibilities, as they can be adapted exactly to the rooms of the prospective customer according to their wishes. However, the custom rugs cannot be "tried out" before purchase, since these have to be made first. This is exactly why some prospective customers are hesitant: Should they still order and take the residual risk that the rug will not look that good in their rooms after all?
