Turquoise Mountain has received support from a prominent player in the carpet and rug industry. Graham Head is now a member of the board. Until the beginning of 2020, Head worked in the management of the well-known New York retailer ABC Carpet & Home. He also sits on the board of Obeetee, India's largest company for hand-knotted carpets.
At Turquoise Mountain, the focus of his work will be to build commercial ties between Afghan rug manufacturers and US retailers and interior designers. "I first visited Turquoise Mountain in Kabul over 10 years ago and I am very excited to now be working with this great team to expand their carpet programme," Graham says.
Turquoise Mountain's carpet programme supports carpet producers and weavers across Afghanistan, creating safe, sustainable jobs for Afghans and connecting them to international markets. To date, Turquoise Mountain has created more than 5,000 jobs and connected Afghan carpet producers with leading retailers around the world.
