The XXXLutz group of companies will take over Wohn-Center Spilger with its two locations in Obernburg and Großwallstadt on the Bavarian Lower Main with effect from 1 October 2023, subject to the approval of the cartel authorities. The German family-owned company filed for insolvency in June and has been looking for a buyer ever since.
According to the company, the acquisition by XXXLutz secures the future of the furniture store and discounter, which will not be modernised until 2022. The Wohn-Center Spilger in Obernburg with a total sales area of 40,000 square metres will continue to operate under the XXXLutz brand, as will Spilger's Sparmaxx in Großwallstadt with a further 8,000 square metres of sales area. The Austrian group has announced that it will take on all 136 employees.
