Ikea Germany: Peter Jelkeby to Become CEO

Ikea Germany has appointed a successor to Walter Kadnar: as of 1 January 2026, Peter Jelkeby will take on the role of CEO and CSO. The Swedish-born executive is currently serving as Country Retail Manager for Ikea UK and Ireland.

Jelkeby began his Ikea career in 1983 at the Gothenburg store while studying, later taking on international assignments in Moscow, Vietnam and the UK in various leadership roles. He also spent nine years with retailer Clas Ohlson, where he served as Executive Vice President/COO and as acting CEO. Since 2019 he has been leading Ikea UK & Ireland, where, according to the company, he has successfully driven its transformation into an omnichannel retailer.

Walter Kadnar headed Ikea Germany from October 2022 until August 2025 and has since been responsible for the group’s business in the Netherlands. Until Jelkeby assumes his new role, Sandra Stibale, Deputy Country Retail Manager, will play a key role in managing operations.
