With the IDD Cologne (Interior Design Days), Koelnmesse launched a new format that deliberately took place outside the exhibition halls – right in the heart of Cologne. From 26 to 29 October, a total of 106 brands showcased their innovations across 16 locations, including the iconic Design Post, the architecturally striking Stoff Pavilion Moeller, and the industrial-style Machwerkhaus Köln. The premiere attracted around 10,000 registered visitors and featured more than 70 events.
“It’s the beginning of something new,” said Leo Lübke, Managing Partner of Cor and President of the Association of the German Furniture Industry (VDM), at the press breakfast in the Stoff Pavilion Moeller. His conclusion: “IDD Cologne has shown what defines our industry – creativity, entrepreneurship and the courage to take new paths. The need for exchange, visibility and inspiration is great, and this is exactly where IDD Cologne comes in: as a platform that uniquely connects encounter and design culture – close to the market, close to people, close to the future of interiors.”
How the format will evolve remains to be seen. In close dialogue with the furniture industry, Koelnmesse now plans to evaluate the experiences and feedback of exhibitors, partners and visitors. The findings – taking into account the current market environment – will form the basis for the next edition.
