XXXLutz marks its 80th anniversary

On October 31st, 1945, Gertrude Seifert, née Lutz, founded the furniture business Lutz in Haag am Hausruck, Austria – located between Linz and Salzburg. From a small family operation selling hand-painted farmhouse furniture, dollhouses, and chip boxes, the company has grown over eight decades into one of the world’s largest furniture retailers.

Today, the XXXLutz Group, headquartered in Wels, employs around 27,300 people across 14 countries. The company’s portfolio includes brands such as Möbelix and Mömax, as well as 24 online shops throughout Europe.

“Our founder showed courage and believed in the future. Today, XXXLutz is an international corporate group,” says company spokesman Thomas Saliger. Despite economic challenges, the outlook remains positive: “Living space will always be needed – and the shopping experience of the future will merge physical and digital worlds.”

Even looking ahead to the company’s 100th anniversary, the team in Wels is convinced that brick-and-mortar retail will continue to play an important role: “Furniture is something sensual, something alive.”
