Höffner expands central warehouse

Möbel Höffner has expanded its central warehouse in Günthersdorf, in the eastern German state of Saxony-Anhalt, for the third time since 1991. According to press reports, the facility now offers more than 200,000 storage spaces across three levels and supplies all 28 Höffner furniture stores as well as the company's entire online order volume. Around €300 million is said to have been invested in the site over recent years, which now employs roughly 1,000 people, including 100 apprentices.

Founder and owner Kurt Krieger reportedly struck a cautious tone on the state of the industry: according to the reports, German furniture retail sales have fallen from €30 billion in 2002 to around €20 billion in 2025, with subdued consumer spending and growing online competition weighing on bricks-and-mortar retailers.

Even so, Höffner continues to expand: a new furniture store is due to open in Bremen this autumn, the acquired Möbel Mahler site in Siebenlehn near Dresden has been refurbished, and the former Galeria Kaufhof property in Chemnitz is currently being converted.
