The exhibition "Der ewige Teppich - Import, Innovation, Industrie (The Everlasting Carpet - Import, Innovation, Industry)" in the Museum Textilwerk in Bocholt (Germany) shows the design, use and production of oriental machine-tufted carpets. This type of carpet was developed in the 19th century and made carpets with oriental patterns an affordable mass product.
With over 400 exhibits, the exhibition shows the innovative technology behind the industrial mass product and "incidentally" also tells a German-German story. After the Second World War, production moved from the Vogtland region in eastern Germany, where the first mechanised carpet factory was built in 1880, to western Germany.
