Calcutta-Ananbel, the oldest weaving mill in Belgium, has filed for insolvency, according to press reports. Calcutta was known for its textile wall coverings and window blinds. The group also included velvet weaver Annabel and Jack and the Fish (washable carpets). Calcutta was only taken over in 2019 by Christoph Vermeersch, who made the group profitable through various acquisitions. However, a sharp drop in production and rising costs recently led to losses which, according to Belgian business portals, have now led to the group's insolvency.
