On 27 October 2026, the local court in Essen initiated preliminary insolvency proceedings (case no. 165 IN 291/26) for Dekowe Schürholz GmbH, based in Dorsten, Germany. Tanja Kreimer, a lawyer from Marl, is the preliminary insolvency administrator.
According to sales manager Michael Rohmann, the company is already working with her to ensure the business continues on a stable footing. Day-to-day business is carrying on, he says, and existing and future orders are being processed and delivered as planned. In his view, the production site in Romania is not affected by the insolvency.
Dekowe specialises in natural fibre rugs. Its range also includes machine-woven rugs with contemporary patterns and stair tread mats. The company was founded in 1887 as Stevens & Schürholz. Dekowe had already been insolvent once before, in 2007, when it was sold to the Steffel Group; it was later taken over by Brüder Schlau. Since 2024 the company has been back in the hands of the founding family, with Philipp Schürholz, the fifth generation, at the helm as managing director and shareholder.
