Ikea Germany doubles online sales

Ikea Germany closed the 2021 financial year (1 September 2020 to 31 August 2021) with total sales of EUR 5.305 billion, down 3.2% year-on-year. At the same time, online sales grew by 102.9% and amounted to EUR 1.747 billion. The online share of retail sales rose to 34.3% (last year it was 16.2%). Globally, total sales of all Ikea franchise partners amounted to EUR 41.9 billion in the financial year 2021 (same period last year: EUR 39.6 billion).
"We have further accelerated our development into an omnichannel retailer and were able to almost compensate for the slump in sales in the stationary business," says Dennis Balslev, Managing Director and CSO of Ikea Germany. The massive expansion of online planning and consulting services as well as Click & Collect had contributed to more than doubling online sales (+102.9%).
At around 53.2 million customers, the number of visitors to the 54 German furniture stores fell by 35.4% due to Corona. The number of online visits again increased significantly, namely by 16.6%: 417.4 million people were inspired by the Swedish furnishing company's range of products on ikea.de. 31.8 million customers made purchases in one of the 54 furniture stores in the past financial year. 9.36 million people shopped at ikea.de, which corresponds to an increase of 172.8%.
The average receipt in the stationary trade rose by 13.8% to 101.57 EUR. The average receipt achieved online was 186.68 EUR, which is around 25.6% less than in the previous year.
