At the end of October, the new Möbel Höffner store will open in Kiel. The opening had originally been planned for early September – however, the construction work had stirred up a lot of dust, also in a figurative sense. In autumn 2020, an excavator destroyed compensation areas that had been created according to the Federal Nature Conservation Act – an accident, according to Höffner. Group CEO Kurt Krieger was on site in mid-August and, according to the newspaper "Kieler Nachrichten", stated that he very much regretted the damage. He asked the people of Kiel's forgiveness and announced the establishment of the "Kurt Krieger Foundation for Sustainable Building" with EUR 500,000 start-up capital as reparation. Up to EUR 100,000 per year are to go into ecological projects at different Krieger Group locations.
