Ikea: sales are growing again in 2021
Ingka Group has announced Ikea retail sales of EUR 37.4 billion for the financial year 2021 (ending on 31 August). Compared to last year (2020: EUR 35.2 billion), this is an increase of 6.3%. "Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, the company continues to invest in becoming more accessible digitally and physically, more affordable and truly sustainable", it says in the press release. The pandemic has led Ingka to accelerate its digital transformation, this resulted in an increase in the share of online sales from 18% to 30%.
In 2021, Ikea opened its first store in Slovenia and an additional 25 new Ikea locations. The company now sees a higher demand for workplace furniture, outdoor furniture and storage solutions.
Ingka Group has committed to invest an extra EUR 4 billion in renewable energy projects to further reduce its climate footprint. In addition, the company is the founding member of the UNFCCC Race to Zero – Retail Campaign together with H&M, Kingfisher and Walmart.
