From 20 October to 20 November, the focus at Munich's "Galerie Handwerk" will be on handmade carpets: the gallery will show traditional examples such as rag rugs from southern Germany, but also modern designer carpets from German workshops and studios and from other European countries. From minimalist, graphic designs to floral images and new interpretations of the "Persian carpet", the exhibition aims to awaken the visitors' desire for carpets and rugs.
The examples on display are hand-woven or -knotted, -braided or -tufted. The materials: cotton, goat's hair and sheep's wool, but also synthetic ribbons, viscose, wood, paper, bicycle inner tubes or Swiss army coats. Among the exhibits are pieces by Jan Kath, Kristiina Lassus, Nanimarquina and Pappelina.
The Munich "Galerie Handwerk" is the showcase of the Chamber of Crafts for Munich and Upper Bavaria. With seven exhibitions a year, it shows the diversity of craft culture.
